Okay.

Y'all know I have no pretensions about music whatsoever. I am completely clueless as to what's popular, or what's going on, musically, at any given time. But in a rare coincidence of the stars, I happened to stumble across a certain album, somehow, just as the artist is, in fact, current. Quite new, even. I know, what the shit. The album isn't even out in the US yet, I don't think. I'm going to assume you've all heard of Mika - Grace Kelly and Billy Brown (ftr, I hadn't. Yeah, I'm that clueless). I wandered vaguely into a *cough* legal acquisition of his first album, Life in Cartoon Motion.

Oh my god, you guys.

Oh my god.

I'm not going to lie - this is hyperactive, kitchsy, campy, glittery, orchestral, falsetto-voiced, vogue-around-your-room-in-your-Wonder-Woman-underwear, sing-into-your-hairbrush-in-front-of-the-mirror pop. It's five-star or one-star, love it or loathe it. And guys, I fucking love it. I literally don't think I've ever listened to an album as nakedly, unashamedly sparkly, snappy, bitchy/saccharine, and just fucking fun as this one. And just as you're starting to get a little out of breath from uncontrollable, irresistible bopping, along comes a perfectly-timed track like Any Other World or Happy Ending that is so unexpectedly over-the-top gorgeous that you have to drop everything you're doing, sit down, close your eyes, and listen to them.

Mika, Life in Cartoon Motion. Download. Eat too much sugar. Listen.
