GIP

In other words, [livejournal.com profile] kessie and I went to see 300 tonight.

I have a lot of thoughts on the backlash and controversy over this movie, on history vs. fantasy, playing on prejudices, spectacle vs. taking anything in this movie at all seriously, etc, etc, but a) I am tired, and b) Jon Stewart more or less summed it up when he said, "IT'S A MOVIE."

Also c) I am still reeling from the visualsgasm. Wow. Guh. If I ever have to go into battle against a million gay terrorist deviants, with only 1800 rock-hard abs at my back, that's how I want it to look.

In conclusion, lol gold codpiece.
newredshoes: possum, "How embarrassing!" (give us a kiss!)

I dunno, I haven't seen it yet, but somehow I don't quite know how I'll be able to reconcile the fact that Leonidas was the Phantom of the Opera first.

Also, he was the Scottish dude in Tomb Raider 2.

Still loved it, and I still want to see it again at some point. :x

See?? Pretty! :D

It was so pretty and wonderful and gay--on both sides!

Also, is it just me or is the Oracle prediction/dance thing gorgeous?

I so love the GIP Icon. Seriously.

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm broke, so I doubt I'll get to see it for a while.

-_-

Makes face.

I'm pretty sure that the Persians are actually the Americans....

[identity profile] mcity.livejournal.com 2007-03-24 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
This is based on a real historical battle, fought centuries ago. In fact, it's based on a comic that came out in the late 90s, inspired by a movie that came out in 1962, inspired by a real historical battle. So no, no political commentary here. Move along.

Are you laughing at what I said, or because you disagree?

[identity profile] agoodshinkickin.livejournal.com 2007-03-24 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm laughing because I've been making that very same argument for the last month in various other places around the net.

Mine was a tongue in cheek response to the GIP.

Oh, good. I was afraid I'd have to start wanking. You might want to point out that another problem with the whole "300-Propaganda" thing is that neither side is America. Persia is a world-conquering superpower composed of an assortment of enslaved nations bound together by the lash, mostly Blacks, with some 'mutants' among. Sparta is a small, ferocious city state full of near-perfect white men-so much so that they kill any imperfect infants-trying to prevent Persia from conquering and enslaving it.

If Persia is America, that would make Sparta Iraq or Al-Qaeda something. If Sparta is America, then that makes Persia...who, exactly? I can see the Xerses=Bush connection, but last time I checked, Bush didn't have a personal brothel. Full of whoreswhoreswhores (http://www.shortpacked.com/d/20060207.html).

Yeah, I never seem to get past the whole "untrustworthy narrator" point. People keep harping on how poorly the Persian Army is represented without taking into consideration that the only source we have for this information is the Epic Retelling by a Spartan Officer.

I just want to shake them and say: NARRATORS ARE NOT ALWAYS GOOD AND HONEST PEOPLE! THEY DON'T ALWAYS TELL THE TRUTH!

According to the Wikipedia page, the Director said "Delios is not one to let facts get in the way of a good story."

Also, LOL, leather undies. I belive they actually fought naked. Hows that for intimidating.

Oddly enough, I just saw it too. And now I want a shirt or something.
