For own reference.

Guys, I am (failing at) writing a dissertation chapter on linguistics (of which I have only ever taken a few hours' worth of classes) w/r/t the intercourse of Latin (which I have never studied) and Old Irish (the modern evolution of which I only know in theory), and what conclusions might or might not be drawn from such re: Roman presence in Ireland (inconclusive).

This shit is bad enough when you have increasing difficulty understanding and deciphering papers on subjects you have studied for YEARS. I actually just want to make a fort of books and cry.

Hey, a friend of mine in the office is a linguist, and she just presented a paper on that very thing. She's out today, but I can probably get her to answer some questions tomorrow if you want?

That... might actually be awesome, provided that by tomorrow I have enough of a grasp of the subject to know what questions I need to be asking. So, uh. We'll see. Lordy.

Actually, it was just an in-work lunchtime lecture thing, although I think she might be padding it out for publication at some point. It was mostly based around ogham, and her theory was that it had to be based on the Latin alphabet, for... reasons. But yeah, at the very least, she'll be able to point at the right resources.

LMAO, that is basically where I am now. Ogham is based upon the Latin alphabet for [jumble of incomprehensible linguistics jargon] reasons.

oieurwqpomaklsdj Holly, you have no idea. After finishing my coffee, I went back to the library, and my pen just STOPPED WORKING. LIKE FOR NO REASON. IT WAS FULL OF INK. I swear to god, I actually nearly screamed. After getting back up, trudging across Front Square IN THE RAIN to buy a handful of new biros, I am just like FUCK IT, I might as well have lunch now.
