Oh dear. Oh, I do not feel good about this at all. Doctor Manhattan yes. Rorschach's look and voice, yes. Troublingly intense focus on irrelevant bits of Doctor Manhattan's backstory no. Rorschach's line reading no. In 2009! Marketing departments! Still will not get! That generic declarative statements with lots of dolly zoom! Are fucking stupid! No! Ozymandias, there is not enough no in the whole world.

And that had better not have been a rakish, Tony Stark-esque grin I saw the Comedian sporting, Mr. Visionary Director Of 300, or I am going to come to your house, grind you up into powder, and roll you into cigarettes for Warren Ellis to smoke.

Oh god, suddenly I'm really worried that this is going to be the worst victim yet of the Curse of Alan Moore Movies.

Ack. I just looked up the Wikipedia article on the film.

Nite Owl's costume design was modernized from the spandex of the comic to make him more intimidating.

BUT NITE OWL ISN'T SUPPOSED TO BE INTIMIDATING! HE'S SUPPOSED TO BE A MIDDLE-AGED NEBBISH!

UGH I KNOW, that is pretty emblematic of all the things I am terrified of this movie turning into. The rest, I am ready to frantically try and justify as being for the sake of the trailer, and hooking in newbie masses - the explanatory 'look, a glowing blue dude!', the amped-up WOOO SUPERHEROES FIGHTING AND BLOWING SHIT UP action scenes, etc.

(Am also hoping that Rorschach's line-delivery has been edited. I mean, he is supposed to have a creepy monotone voice, so there's that, and... well. I did some work experience in a radio station a few years ago, including an afternoon in the sound editing booth, and for ad spots, they literally cut out the pauses between words to shorten the delivery time and fit the recorded lines in the required space. So... yes.)

Also, that did not look to me so much like a rakish Tony Stark grin as an 'I am setting you on fire to burn and die horribly and loving it' grin.

M...maybe they revamped Nite Owl's costume on account of: realism is a big part of Watchmen, and - the genres and different media being what they are - whilst a spandex costume works in the pages of a comic, it does not so much on-screen, and audiences need to believe that this guy did actually go out and fight crime with reasonable success for a number of years? Maybe?
