I am trying to explain to my dad - who is down first thing in the morning and tuned into CNN for the post-mortem ♥ - how so many people in the US in chat with me tonight were like, "There are screams on the street outside my window."

And not because of riots, or violence, or fear, or hate, but instead? Just... spontaneous gatherings of joy. Because Barack Obama is the leader of the free world - a title that maybe, for the first time in a long time, actually means something. Because we all are ready to get down to changing the fuck out of some shit, goddamn.

(Oh my god, my eyes are actually burning from how much I have cried tonight, and yet I cannot stop just periodically bursting into tears.)

AND NOW MY DAD IS ON THE PHONE WITH HIS AMERICAN BUDDY JOE FROM PENNSYLVANIA. "LOL I KNOW. DID YOU STAY UP ALL NIGHT???"
