Okay! Psychiatrist's appointment went very well - he is lovely, if softspoken enough that sometimes I have trouble hearing him.

Things went much as expected - mix of anxiety issues and depression, which I am sure surprises nobody. Though he was apparently impressed by the fact that I've nevertheless managed to keep the show on the road, as it were, w/r/t maintaining reasonable grades (II.1 average¹) and such. Anyro', apparently I am otherwise a very level person (he didn't "sense anything sinister," cue me struggling not to start laughing), so no therapy, but upped to 10mg of Lexapro. So... there. La. It was all very undramatic. Which I like a lot.

¹Which is somewhere between like... a 3.6 and a 3.9 GPA by US standards? Inasmuch as the two systems can be compared. CONFUSING.

Hahahaha, 'it' so is. Although now I have quite the most charming image of belly-scratching, which I can just tell is going to make me start snerking at inappropriate moments tomorrow.

I just... can't even express how much I love that he used the word 'sinister'. Like, AM I SITTING IN THE CHAIR WHERE HANNIBAL O'LECTER ONCE SAT. Hilarious.

I knew this would be a good thing.

I am optimistic. And looking forward to being able to concentrate on things again, and complete simple tasks, and generally... live up to at least a small bit more of my potential.

Ha. I know that feeling.

I don't know how useful you'll find this, but I find that dividing my day into smaller tasks to be completed, and completing them, really helps my confidence that I can do larger things.

Hurrah for an undramatic, positive experience. :)

Indeed. I don't want to say he was... very professional, exactly, because that sort of carries overtones of being slightly brusque and overly businesslike. But he was right there with me as regards couching things in terms of symptoms (or whathaveyou) as opposed to being like "Tell me about your feeeelings," which is anathema to people like me.

Totally. I think maybe one of the best things about seeing a psychiatrist is that... this is what they do. This is so everyday for them that it really kind of normalises things for you as well, instead of them being like ZOMGDOOM.

*nodnod* Yeah. That's an excellent point.

That and that a lot of people's mental image of psychiatrists -- the tell me about your feelings stuff, and assorted unhelpful fruitcakery -- is often spurred by caricatures of therapists. Which are, uh, caricatures. As opposed to real and competant doctors.

Yay! Lack of drama is excellent. Though yeah... way off on the sinister thing - fortunately we all know better. I'm completely ignoring the 'pussycat' comment, of course. I saw nothing. :]
