Oh, panic attacks, I have not missed you. Self, take a break, take a diazepam, and watch an episode of The West Wing whilst it kicks in and calms you the hell down. And remember, self: it is the first chapter of your first draft of your dissertation. As long as you turn in something, anything, with a vague semblance of a similarity of what you intend it to eventually be, it'll be fine.

Officially, 'not more than 15,000 words', so I'm shooting for a ballpark of... well, anything between that and the lower limit I'm setting myself of 12,000.

(The History students' upper limit is 10,000! UNFAIR OR WHAT.)
