Our new kitchen.

"Did you use the hob last night?"

"Yes? I made pasta to go with - "

"Oh. Well, only use the oven and the microwave. Don't use the hob. I don't use the hob."

"But - what - "

"Because then it'll have to be cleaned. So don't use it. Just use the microwave from now on."

ETA: Also, I've gotten three 'Recent death of a member of the college community' emails in my uni inbox in the past week, all postgrads.

Suddenly glad I am taking that year off. :|

When we moved into the house I live in now, that lasted for two and a half weeks.

LOL! I know I don't know you...well, only by your posts...but you should really write a book about your family. :) In my own family's history, it was the sofa. We got a new sofa, and no one was allowed to use it. At least we didn't keep the plastic on it. But still. What's the point? :) I say keep sneaking to use it until you've slowly worn the "new" off. If you can survive that long, that is. haha. Your family will secretly thank you. Seriously, someone has to take the fall. You know it'll be you one way or the other, right? :)

Um, k?

What's so horrifying and world-destroying about cleaning the hob that people refer to it in whispers and hushed cries?

That icon is horrifying and world destroying...eeeeek!

Ugh. My mom was like that after we remodeled the kitchen, but she didn't want anyone to use the kitchen at all, which made it so ridiculous it was easy for the rest of my family en masse to go "...no, we remodeled the kitchen so that we could use it" and ignore her.

I remember when my parents bought a pool-table for the basement "teen hang out room" they didn't want us to use it either. Because we'd ruin the felt and the new walls. Yep.

I actually miss having a hob. If I ever get the chance to build my own house/kitchen, I'm SO having a hob. I don't care if they take forever to clean, I love them!
